Required reading for strategic managers.+

Andersen Consulting recently completed a study of the worldwide electronics systems business. one among the key results reported during this study was that those firms that followed ancient approaches to strategy, collaboration, organization, and business processes (as currently taught in most MBA programs and espoused by some consultants), had decreased probabilities for fulfillment compared to those companies whose managers followed innovative approaches to strategic thinking and action. whereas some details of the innovative approaches were provided within the report, there was no unifying framework to assist managers and researchers in putting the findings in context-nor was there any basis for generalizing the findings to different industries. Competing on the sting provides such a framework also because the basis for extension to a good style of industries.
